Heading up to Maine

Day 1

We landed in Boston and drove up to Portsmouth, New Hampshire. We have a competition with our friends to see which couple has visited the most states together. State 1....New Hampshire. In Portsmouth, we shopped at a variety of local stores. Colleen found a great high end resale shop. We stopped for lunch at great pizza restaurant called Flatbread. Colleen found a new favorite beer, Sea Dog Blueberry beer.

We headed out of town from Portsmouth to state number 2...Maine! We stopped in Ogunquit. This is a quaint little town with a great walking path along the ocean. We took a boat tour describing how they catch lobsters. It was very educational and made us hungry for some good Maine lobster. After our tour, we headed to Portland, Maine.

In Portland, we stayed at the Eastland Hotel. This was in the port harbour area. We walked around a bit and made our way to Hugo's for dinner. Our dinners were fabulous. We had a local fish called Hake which was delicious!

Lighthouses, LL Bean, and more great food

Day 2

In the morning we hit the starbucks and then headed out to do a lighthouse tour. Our first lighthouse was the Spring Point Ledge Lighthouse. This was at the end of a 1,000 foot granite walkway. It was beautiful. Our next lighthouse was the Portland Head Light. This was a very picturesque lighthouse. We have been using our gorilla pod which is a pliable mini tripod. It has been great for taking pictures of the both of us when no one else was around.

Our final stop was the Two Lights State park. There were 2 lighthouses that were apart of private property. At the end of the road was the Lobster Shack. We had lobster rolls (basically lobster sandwiches with huge chunks of lobster) and lobster stew by the ocean. It was a wonderful find!

We headed back to Portland and hit the LL Bean outlet. Alan and I both found things for our next trip to Alaska.

For dinner we went to Four Street restaurant. Another great pick from the Zillich foodie! We had scallops and more hake. We finished the night with a cocktail at the highest point in Portland, the top of our hotel!

Boston

Day 3

We left Portland, hit the Starbucks, and headed to Boston. State number 3 in 3 days! We were able to drop off the car and check into the hotel without an issue. Our hotel was across the street from Faneiul Hall. We enjoyed a quick lunch from the Quincy Market. We then started to walk around in the city. We went to the public garden and down Newberry Street. We stopped at Filene's Basement for a little more discount shopping. We ended up at the Prudential Center for our Boston Ducks tour. It was a great way to see all the sights of the city from the road and from the Charles River.
After our tour we went to the North End. We had fabulous Italian food and canoles at an amazing bakery. It was an awesome dinner, again!

We had a great weekend getaway to New England. We had much better weather than Indy and were actually able to watch the Indy 500 on TV (they block it live in Indianapolis!). What a great weekend!
